Crowds hit the street for festival
On Saturday, May 3, UC Irvine and UCI Health teamed up with the city of Irvine for CicloIrvine, a community-focused, car-free, open-street event highlighting a collective commitment to community engagement, sustainability and environmentally conscious travel.
The festival is in its second year and took place on a 1.4-mile route along Campus Drive. Participants strolled, biked or rolled along the northern border of the campus to experience some of Irvine’s public spaces and local businesses, with entertainment coming from live music, art displays and other family-friendly activities.
CicloIrvine is a further example of the university’s dedication to engaging the local community and aligns with UC Irvine’s commitment to sustainability.
“From operating the country’s first all-electric bus fleet to soon opening the nation’s first all-electric hospital, UC Irvine and UCI Health have long championed sustainable practices,” said Sherry Main, UC Irvine’s vice chancellor for strategic communications and public affairs. “We are proud to share that commitment with the city. CicloIrvine is a wonderful partnership that welcomes our neighbors and celebrates our shared dedication to building a better future for the next generation.”
