UC Irvine symposium to focus on what communities can learn from Los Angeles wildfires
EVENT: The Climate & Urban Sustainability Program and the School of Social Ecology at the University of California, Irvine will present “Igniting Solutions,” a half-day symposium featuring experts discussing the lessons learned from the recent wildfires in Los Angeles and focusing on what other California communities, like Orange County, can do to prepare.

BACKGROUND: “As highly destructive wildfires increase in California, and FEMA and the insurance sector rethink the roles they will play going forward, it is vitally important that universities organize events like this to help communities understand the risks they face and what they can do to reduce vulnerability, respond effectively and recover quickly,” said event moderator Richard Matthew, UC Irvine professor of urban planning and public policy as well as director of the Climate & Urban Sustainability Program.
